Intended purpose
AlloScribe records, transcribes and structures what a clinician dictates into a draft report or note for that clinician to review, edit and approve. It does not interpret images, suggest diagnoses or treatments, or act autonomously.
On that basis, AlloScribe is not a medical device under the MHRA's guidance on ambient voice technology, published in July 2026. We keep our product and our marketing consistent with this purpose.
The clinician remains responsible for every report. Nothing is sent to an EMR or exported as final without them.
What AlloScribe does not do
- It does not look at, analyse or interpret images or scans.
- It does not suggest diagnoses, differential diagnoses, treatments or follow-up.
- It does not add findings, an impression or a plan that you did not dictate.
- It does not sign, send or file a report on its own. You decide when a report is final.
- It does not keep finished reports on our servers. They stay on your device.
Safeguards built in
Review before sign-off
Every report is a draft until you approve it. You can edit it like a document before you export it or send it to your RIS or EMR.
[unclear] markers
Words the system could not hear clearly are marked [unclear] in the text, so they stand out for you to check and correct rather than being guessed.
No added findings or impressions
AlloScribe structures what you said. It will not add findings, impressions or plans that were not dictated. Sections of your template that you did not mention are left as your template has them.
Value checks
Measurements and other values in the report are checked against the transcript, so that the numbers in the draft match what you said.
No-speech detection
If a recording contains no usable speech, you are told so instead of being given a note, and you are not charged for it.
Silence warnings
If no sound reaches the microphone, you are warned within a few seconds. After a long silence (about 2 minutes) the recording pauses itself.
Recordings are not lost
Audio is saved to your device every second while you record. If the page reloads, the tab closes or the device crashes, the recording is offered back to you to play, continue, keep in Drafts or discard. If processing fails, the recording stays in Drafts with a clear reason and can be retried.
Version history
Edits to a report are kept as versions on your device, and you can restore an earlier version. A clinical summary never changes the report it summarises, and you are told if the report has been edited since the summary was made.
UK conventions
Reports are written in British English with metric units, using vocabulary for your specialty.
Your responsibilities
AlloScribe supports your reporting. It does not replace your clinical judgement. When you use it, you are responsible for:
- reading the whole report before you sign, export or send it;
- resolving every [unclear] marker;
- checking measurements, values, laterality and anatomy against what you found;
- making sure the report belongs to the right patient and study;
- following your organisation's policies, including on telling patients and recording consultations;
- using AlloScribe only for its intended purpose;
- telling us about anything that could affect patient safety.
NHS deployment
NHS England's guidance on AI-enabled ambient scribing products (April 2025) asks organisations that deploy them to complete a data protection impact assessment (DPIA) and a clinical risk assessment under DCB0160, and to gather evidence from the supplier, including on DCB0129, the Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC) and the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT).
We support your information governance and clinical safety teams through that process. Email sales@alloscribe.com for our documentation and to arrange a conversation with our clinical safety lead, [named Clinical Safety Officer].
Our approach to data is set out on the Security page, and our data processing terms on the data processing page.
Report a safety concern
If you think AlloScribe has contributed to, or could contribute to, harm to a patient, email hello@alloscribe.com with the subject line "Clinical safety". We will acknowledge your report within 1 working day.
Please include:
- what happened, and when;
- what you dictated and what appeared in the report, described without patient-identifiable information;
- the write-up mode and template you used;
- whether the report was signed, exported or sent to an EMR;
- the device and browser or app you were using;
- how we can contact you.
Do not send patient-identifiable information by email. If a patient may have been affected, also follow your organisation's own incident reporting process.
